Regulation basketball backboards have a width of 72” | 183 cm and a height of 42” | 110 cm with an inner rectangle that is 24” | 61 cm wide and 18” | 45.7 cm tall. For casual non-regulation courts, smaller Fan-Shaped Backboards are often used. Basketball rims are hung 10’ | 3.05 m above the court floor.
According to both organizations, the basketball backboard must be a flat, transparent board that is 6 feet wide. The NBA allows only one height, 3 1/2 feet. However, although the NCAA regulations favor a 3 1/2-foot height, 4 feet is allowed.

Per NBA regulations, the dimensions of a basketball backboard are 6 feet wide by 3 ½ feet high. The backboard is marked with a 2-inch white rectangle that is centered behind the ring; the rectangle's outer dimensions are 24 inches wide by 18 inches high. The basket itself consists of a metal ring with an 18-inch inner diameter and a white cord net that is 15 to 18 inches long.

The distance between the basketball hoop and the reflective board is 0.3 meters. The basketball hoop itself has a distance or length of 0.4 m. The pillar of the reflective board from the outside is 1.8 m long and 1.2 m wide. Meanwhile, the length of the inner side times the width is 0.59 x 0.45 m.
The distance from the gym floor to the rim is 10 feet. This rim height is the same for Junior High, High School, NCAA, WNBA, FIBA, and the NBA. Some kids’ leagues will lower the hoop to 8 feet or 9 feet to acknowledge that younger kids have difficulty shooting at 10 feet high hoops.
Backboard sizes vary in width from 48” wide all the way up to 72”, but for the sake of regular game play we recommend choosing backboard no smaller than 54” wide. Anything narrower than this measurement won’t allow the player to perform bank shots at all!
